GEHLI to host minority impact analysis talks

The Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute (GEHLI) will host a half-day of talks on policy and legislation impacting minority communities. Three team presentations will be made by the 2016 Class of the Minority Political Leadership Institute (MPLI) on Friday, November 18, 2016 from 1-4 p.m. at the Richmond Omni.

This year's projects include an analysis of:
  • HB 834/SB 449 Virginia Growth & Opportunity Act (1:00 PM)
  • HB 828 Eligibility for TANF, Drug related felonies (2:00 PM)
  • SJ 6 Establishment of charter schools in the Commonwealth of Virginia (3:00 PM)

A joint initiative between GEHLI and the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus Foundation, the mission of the MPLI is to provide an intensive seven-month experience that promotes leadership development for citizens who want to expand their knowledge of community economics, political climate, civic engagement and racial equity. Program participants are required to complete a team project that advances their understanding and facilitates the development of networks and resources for effective information sharing, collaboration and decision-making.
