The 10th Annual HIGHER Ground Women's Leadership Conference will take place at the Richmond Marriott, on Friday, Jan. 29. The focus of this year’s conference will be on educating and empowering women to unlock their potential for success at work, at home and in their communities. The event is presented by the Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute (GEHLI) at the VCU Wilder School.

“For more than a decade, the HIGHER Ground Conference—our flagship women’s capacity-building event—has been an important resource for accelerating the achievement of women within the region. This event addresses the whole woman – both personally and professionally,” said Nakeina Douglas-Glenn, Ph.D., director of the institute.

The HIGHER Ground Conference offers a timely preview of GEHLI’s HIGHER Ground Women’s Leadership, a five-month program designed for current and emerging women leaders who are committed to investing in themselves and their organizations. Both experiences are designed to benefit women at all career levels in public, private, nonprofit and entrepreneurial positions.

“Every year, HIGHER Ground brings quality leadership programming to more than 300 professionals from across the state at an accessible price. We present an intense, multi-faceted experience with the hope that women leave feeling inspired, empowered and motivated to achieve whatever is next on their personal and professional agendas,” said Douglas-Glenn.

This year’s conference will include more than 25 speakers and a multitude of sessions, topics, workshops and panel discussions and networking opportunities all designed to help women develop the skills and mind set shifts needed to become more effective in their lives. Freda Thornton, restaurant franchisee, president and CEO of FWL & Sons Inc., will deliver the keynote address.
